The extensive testing has been carried out in a pilot plant in the Instrumentation and System Laboratory, Nanyang Technological University, to verify the whole system, including the smart laboratory, electrochemical transducer, and control system. After the laboratory test was completed, the monitoring and control system is installed and tested in the industrial environment. Purechem Onyx Pte. Ltd, the partner of our research project, is a company specializing in waste treatment and management, and its waste chemical treatment is selected as the model of our industrial testing. As the existing equipments of the treatment plant are designed for manual operations, great modifications are needed to achieve automatic operation, and the draft of the modification of treatment plant is shown as Fig below.
Modification of treatment plant
The modification task includes five parts:
1. Installing the online instruments in the treatment
plant.
2. Replacing the existing manual valves with pneumatic
and electrical valves.
3. Installing the multi-stream sampling system in
the treatment plant.
4. Connecting the smart laboratory system to the treatment
plant.
5. Installing the PLC and control system in the treatment
plant.
