Gianna Gayle Amul is Senior Analyst at the Centre for Non-Traditional Security (NTS) Studies in the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Gayle holds an MSc in Asian Studies from RSIS (2012) and a BA in Political Science (cum laude) from the University of the Philippines, Diliman (2007). She served as a Student Research Analyst in the US Programme of the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies at RSIS. Prior to that, she was Research Officer at the Department of National Defense in the Philippines. She has also taught at the University of Philippines and De La Salle University; and assisted on the Millennium Development Goals and the Mainstreaming Human Security in ASEAN Integration research projects spearheaded by the Institute of Strategic and Development Studies (ISDS), Philippines.

Gayle is co-author of Promoting Peace, Development and Human Security: The Mining Act of 1995 and the Indigenous People’s Rights Act (IPRA) (Philippine Social Science Council, 2009) produced under the UN Development Programme’s Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding Programme. She has also contributed to the RSIS Commentaries series and e-International Relations.

Her research interests are primarily in environmental security and energy security, including issues related to the sustainability of mining and nuclear energy. She is also interested in internal and cross-border conflicts with an emphasis on the peace process and the Responsibility to Protect in the Asia-Pacific as well as health security issues, particularly tobacco control and reproductive health.
