WDA-NTU Integrated Circuit Design-Professional (ICD-PRO)

Overview

Singapore is gearing towards a world-class electronics hub, implementing manufacturing solutions and developing cutting edge technology for the global market. More resources such as high tech equipment, proficient processes and top talents are required in this growing industry.

The WDA-NTU Integrated Circuit Design – Professional (ICD-PRO) is a joint programme by NTU Centre for Continuing Education (CCE), NTU VIRTUS IC Design Centre of Excellence (VIRTUS) and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).

ICD-PRO is an intensive 9-month practical training to better prepare you for the ICD profession. Companies often find scarcity in the number of engineers who are both knowledgeable and have practical experiences in the entire ICD cycle. ICD-PRO aims to breach this gap by bringing participants through an entire process of ICD with practical hands-on IC chip design, fabrication, measurement and testing of the end product IC chip. A unique feature of the ICD-PRO is to allow the company-sponsored participants to work on an actual industrial/company-based project under the guidance of VIRTUS’s professors. The resultant Intellectual Property (IP) belongs to the company, dutifully benefitting the sponsoring company.

The objective of ICD-PRO is to build a pipeline of proficient ICD Professionals for the Semiconductor and Electronics industry.

ICD Benefits

One and only programme that emphasise on practical hands-on on the entire ICD cycle (from design, fabrication and measurement)

State of the art design, testing and measurement equipment that can only be available in a world class research institute.

Allow existing/to be IC designers to upgrade their IC design skills and knowledge with the guidance of leading researchers/professors.
Allow companies to work on industry projects under the scope of ICD-PRO Project (Phase 2A). Company retains the intellectual property (IP) at the end of the project.
Expand new business opportunities with the up skilling of human capital
Retaining and Technical talent development in the organisation
High cost subsidy available from government agency of up to S$25 k per participant

About Us

NTU Centre for Continuing Education - The Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) was set up in July 1991. It acts as a link between NTU and the community by providing continuing education for our alumni and others who are keen to advance their knowledge and learn practical skills.

VIRTUS - VIRTUS (Latin for excellence), is an IC Design Centre of Excellence jointly funded by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), aims to be a world-class IC design house, developing key technologies required to design integrated circuits and systems for applications in medical technology, clean technology and consumer electronics.

WDA - The Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) enhances the competitiveness of our workforce by encouraging workers to learn for life and advance with skills. In today's economy, most jobs require not just knowledge, but also skills. WDA collaborates with employers, industry associations, the Union and training organisations, to develop and strengthen the Continuing Education and Training system that is skills-based, open and accessible, as a mainstream pathway for all workers - young and older, from rank and file to professionals and executives - to upgrade and advance in their careers and lives.
