Mission Statement

The UK and Singapore have a long and fruitful history of collaboration in a range of Scientific and Engineering fields. On 4th July 2005, the British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong signed a joint statement on collaborative efforts to strengthen the partnership and promote bilateral co-operation in science, engineering and technology between Singapore and the United Kingdom. Two collaborative initiatives were announced: to encourage scientific collaboration and networks and to help build scientific capacity with Southeast Asian Partners. The latter includes promoting fellowships and research collaboration opportunities in the UK and Singapore for researchers from Southeast Asia. This event covers a broad range of topics all of which are delivered by some of the leading materials scientists from the United Kingdom and Singapore.

This workshop builds on these relationships and aims to:

  • To promote collaborative links between UK and Singapore research communities

  • To promote Materials Science and Engineering

  • To disseminate state of the art materials research and development

  • To promote discussion on the materials technologies needed in the new millennium

The event includes a series of key lectures and networking session.

The organizing committee consists of British High Commission Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore and SIMTech.
