THE TEAM

Aceh, Indonesia

CHUA BAIZHEN
Baizhen was the chief editor of his campus newspaper— The Nanyang Chronicle, before a scheduled change of leadership brutally stripped him of his duties. Now, as a budding business journalist, he is surrounded by piles of financial textbooks but somewhere else in his dark and messy room, plastic models of ships and airplanes remind him that one day, he will live (or die) as a war correspondent.

JANE HUANG
Jane is presently interning at Xynergy. She has previously worked as a script supervisor for an independent feature film. She is an avid reader and writer, and is also active in The Nanyang Chronicle. Besides being part of the NTU Choir, Jane enjoys swimming, photography, and playing the piano. She has also taken part in several creative writing and poetry workshops. Jane is interested in environmental issues and believes in being active in the conservation of our wildlife and forests.

KOH GUI QING
Gui Qing dislikes talking about herself. She does not write beautiful prose but she enjoys listening to other people, who always seem more interesting. Her editors have kindly overlooked her idiosyncrasies and prosaic writing style thus far, and she hopes such good fortune would tarry and ultimately bring her to the scene of some historical event one day. Between now and then, financial journalism has caught her eye and she plans to give it a shot, albeit at the horror of her peers.

JESSICA LIM
Jessica believes there are stories out there waiting to be told, and while there are many ways to do that, she chooses the camera as her pen. She knows that she will never change the world, but she really doesn't see the harm in trying. She currently freelances as a photographer for a local newspaper.

NG BAO YING
Bao Ying writes because she has an insatiable need to share information with everyone. She tends to ask too many questions too, so writing helps to archive information in her head to make way for more. She's also a wannabe photographer and chases countless projects only to clog up her hard drive. She thinks journalism should stick to its noble ideals of keeping people in the know so they can make informed decisions, and hopes she will still think this way in years to come.

Ng Hui Ming
Hui Ming is currently a final-year communications student who specialises in the electronic and broadcast media. Her wide array of interests includes literature, art and film, as well as foreign politics. To her, journalism proves most fulfilling in that it satisfies her inquisitive soul while serving the masses simultaneously. Effectively bilingual, she dreams of working either a print or broadcast journalist for the English or Chinese media, hopefully as she travels the world.

NG SHAO DA
Shao Da is passionate about all things animated and multimedia. Beautiful visual effects never fail to amaze him. He has created a 90-second animated video advertisement for the Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association, cartoons videos for weddings, and other short animated clips. When time permits, Shao Da freelances as a producer and a cameraperson. The GO-FAR trip has opened his eyes to sights unimaginable, and taught him about being a better person.

SNG LI WEI
Li Wei has an endless facination with people. He also pursues anything new and curious, which includes just about everything. Sometimes he also likes looking at and taking pictures, and happened to complete an internship at a local daily and a stint as a photo editor for his campus paper. He also dabbles in layout and design when he can. Somewhere in his head is the thought of going on a one-way journey around the universe, never going to the same place twice.

KERRI THAM
Kerri listens to video and pictures audio, thanks to her love for both forms of electronic media. In between her dueling passions, she also finds a deep affection for music, for she believes that music is the one true medium of communication. She also believes that her experience from interning at local production houses, as well as working for national TV, will aid her in becoming a future director of musical films, or at least films with great soundtracks.

WANG RUN
Wang Run was from a science background before she came to Singapore in 1999. She had never expected she would be in the line of journalism. But she found the passion and interest in the Chinese press and is looking forward to working as a Chinese reporter when she graduates. She is interning with Lianhe Zaobao right now, a major Chinese newspaper in Singapore. She is interested in writing stories about people and hope she can inspire others with them.

WONG CHOO SIN
Everyone has a story to tell, except Choo Sin, that is. That's why he figured he'd tell other peoples' stories. He has completed an internship as a broadcast journalist for KOMU-TV8, the TV station owned by the University of Missouri-Columbia's School of Journalism in the U.S., and was a newsroom assistant for financial news channel CNBC Asia Pacific.

PATRICIA YAP
Patricia only picked up photography two years ago when she joined Nanyang Technological University's student newspaper, The Nanyang Chronicle. Besides having a keen eye for pictures, Patricia also wrote for Today newspaper. Being interested and trained in both photography and journalism, Patricia hopes to become a photojournalist when she graduates.

Sri Lanka

JOEY CHIANG

In her free time, she likes to admire flashy showreels, great designs, photography and artwork. She also enjoys reading, producing handmade cards, and sequinning. Eventually, she wants to be part of the creative team in the broadcast or advertising industry. For now, she hopes to gain more experience in illustration.

JAMIE EE
Jamie had a taste of journalism at Channel i News, the former broadcast arm of Singapore's leading English newspaper, The Straits Times. She loves the rush of the newsroom so much that she later interned there as a print journalist. Jamie thinks the world is a confusing place and wants to understand it. Ever the adventurer, she heads to Sri Lanka for a six-month stint as a segment producer at Young Asia Television, which champions human rights and peace.

She has experienced not just writing and reporting, but also editing, design, and layout, over the course of an eight month internship at Xynergy Pte Ltd and at The Business Times, a local business newspaper. A former president of SCI's student body, she hopes to specialize in IT writing and environmental reporting. Her other dream is to be able to tell the stories of those who live discriminated against on the margins of society.

DARRYL LI
Since he was young, Darryl has been attracted to moving images but his interest in video making really began when he joined Nanyang Spectrum, SCI's TV channel, in 2003. He eventually served as executive producer for a year. KEITH LIN
Keith documents his experiences in the words as a freelance reporter with an international wire service. He has travelled extensively throughout Asia and takes a keen interest in sports and human rights issues. Currently a final-year journalism student, Keith dreams of revisiting his footsteps as a foreign correspondent when he graduates. Photography is his other major preoccupation.

LIZA LIN
You name it. She'll probably write it. Sports, features, education, financial news - Liza's tried and loved all. Print reporting holds the strongest lure for this avid jogger, and after her reporting stints in the United States and Manila, Liza hopes to work with an overseas newspaper. Liza feels the lure of reporting lies not just in chasing scoops, but in interacting with people and telling their story accurately— the true essence of journalism.

RAYMOND POON
Everyone has a great story to tell. That's why Raymond has a keen interest in doing people profiles, since it gives him the chance to get under someone's skin and discover these stories. His interest in profile stories was uncovered during his internship, where he had to write stories about people and their jobs. What made these stories interesting were usually the people, seldom their jobs. Besides writing, his other interests are aikido, reading books on self-discovery, and singing.

TEH JOO LIN
Joo Lin likes to write sad stories. Through these written sketches of mankind, he keeps in touch with life and hopes to move readers to better the lives of themselves and others. He has many fleeting interests but too few stay, so he ends up writing about almost nothing in spaces like this. Joo Lin wants to be on the police beat in future, reporting on tragedy and unfairness in the community that leaves only a few lucky ones untouched.

WEE SUI LEE
Sui Lee is a bonafide news junkie, living and breathing it, 24-7. It is natural therefore, that she would seek to disseminate news and be at its forefront. She has done print and broadcast journalism in the United States, Sri Lanka and Singapore. But she finds it difficult to choose her favorite; each place has its own unique stories. Her favorite topics include people marginalized by society and that is because she believes that the purpose of journalism is to tell stories, in the truest way possible.
