ABOUT EYEWITNESS
Eyewitness is a collection of stories by the students of the GO-FAR overseas reporting class, based on the scenes we witnessed and on the lives of those we met on our trips.
They are not merely words and photographs; they are reminders of people and places that might have been forgotten, that have fallen below the selective radar of the world's media.
We believe that life continues to ebb with joys and pains, serendipity and struggles, and Eyewitness is dedicated to documenting this very core of being human.
ABOUT GO-FAR
Going Overseas for Advanced Reporting (GO-FAR) aims to provide aspiring journalists the opportunity to experience life as foreign correspondents.
The programme allows students to hone their skills learnt in school by participating in a major journalistic project and by allowing them to operate in a foreign environment, where planning and co-ordination are as important as their regular reporting duties.
Students are also given the opportunity to meet people of different nationalities and backgrounds and in turn, learn how to handle cultural sensitivities appropriately.
The inaugural GO-FAR programme was conducted in the second half of 2005. Twenty-five students from Nanyang Technological University's School of Communication and Information visited Meulaboh, Aceh in Indonesia and Sri Lanka, over two separate weeks in July and August.
Their work was focused on the communities affected by the tsunami of December 26, 2004, and the progress of their recovery.
