Singapore Universities Students Exchange Programme
The Singapore Universities Students Exchange Programme (SUSEP) offers NTU students the opportunity to study a few courses or even one semester in NUS and SMU, made possible through a tripartite agreement with NUS and SMU.
Through this programme, students at the 3 institutions are able to study and experience student’s life at a host institution while pursuing their degrees in their university.
In NTU, SUSEP is administered by the Office of Academic Services, and supported by the Schools.
International Student Exchange Programme (INSTEP)
The NTU International Student Exchange Programme (INSTEP) challenges NTU undergraduates to take the leap and experience the world while pursuing studies at NTU. NTU collaborates with some 150 partner universities in more than 30 countries to offer this programme.
To apply, students should have:
- Academic Performance – a minimum GPA score of 3.6 (at point of application).
- Ambassadorial qualities and be enthusiastic about telling new friends about NTU and Singapore – exhibit a positive attitude towards studying and living abroad.
- Those with no previous participation in NTU’s global programmes will be given higher priority.
Says Mr Keng Seng Keat, who went on exchange at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration in Austria: “Memories I will never forget include the first day it snowed, great friends (who in turn came to Singapore for exchange!), hearty and oily Austrian cuisines and the amazing road trips to surrounding countries.”
Global Summer Studies
“GSS is a “study-n-play” programme that gives NTU undergraduates a dual opportunity to travel overseas during their summer break (May-July) for about four to six weeks and at the same time earn academic credits.
The programme encourages students to take opportunity of their summer break to join an overseas university to participate in programmes that could be related to academic coursework (A), cultural immersion (C) or language instruction (L).
Unlike INSTEP or GIP, GSS is open to all undergraduate students regardless of their year of study. So, if you are in your first year or final year and would like to use your summer break gainfully, GSS might be just the programme for you.
Summer studies are being held at selected partner universities around Asia, Europe and Americas.
Some of the benefits of GSS include:
- Earning as many as 8 academic units.
- An immersive experience of the academic culture and heritage of the university and country.
- An opportunity to gain global exposure and network with peers and professors at other prestigious universities.
- No limits on vacancies at universities under GSS Americas
- Open to First Year or Final Year students.

Says Mr Benzei Chen (MSE, Year 2) on his stint at the University of California (Berkeley), in the United States: "The new friends I made, many explorations as well as the unique school environment made my Global Summer Studies stint a most memorable chapter in my life. The unforgettable lessons gained through laughter and tears will stand me in good stead in all future endeavors."
Global Discovery Programme
Global Discovery Programme is a four week overseas study and visit opportunity that aims to provide participants with a broad understanding of emerging economies such as Vietnam and India as potential career options.
Rather than simply presenting and discussing business related issues within the confines of a classroom, the program encourages students to make their own evaluation by interacting with representatives of major business houses, management boards and investment firms.
Participants explore several aspects of doing business in these markets through a combination of lectures and field trips. By the end of the programme, students will have gained a sweeping overview of the historical evolution of such dynamic countries, their unique political and administrative systems, and the economic transformation now taking place there - not to mention the excursions and visits to many fascinating places of interests.
