ADMISSION CRITERIA
Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘A’ level
Applicants, regardless of nationality, presenting only the Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘A’ level certificate.
Admission Requirements
You are offering the Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'A' level Examination in the English medium and must have obtained all of the following:
- At least two passes in subjects at H2 level and attempted General Paper (GP) or Knowledge & Inquiry (KI) in the same sitting;
- Meet one of the following Mother Tongue Language (MTL) requirement:
- A minimum of 'S' grade in H1 MTL or General Studies in Chinese or H2 Mother Tongue Language & Literature (MTLL) taken at 'A' level
- Pass in MTL ‘B’ syllabus taken at ‘A’ level
- A minimum of D7 in Higher MTL taken at 'O' level
A Mother Tongue subject (Chinese/Malay/Tamil) taken at a separate sitting of the GCE 'A' level examination is acceptable for purpose of admission. H1 non-Tamil Indian Language (Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu) or H1 Foreign Language (French, German, Japanese) may be taken in lieu of MTL.
Candidates who do not satisfy the MTL requirement may still submit an application for admission. If selected, he/she will be admitted on a provisional basis. During their course of study, they will be required to meet the minimum MTL requirement before they are allowed to graduate.

In addition, candidates are required to submit the following five (5) submission items.
Part 1 – These are compulsory assignments to fulfil.
- A portfolio or demo reel of personal artwork, including projects developed in secondary education. The portfolio should demonstrate general artistic proficiency plus ability in the desired area of BFA expertise (i.e. animation, photography, design, etc).
- A short written composition in English of no more than 400 words explaining why you are uniquely qualified to enter a specific BFA programme.
Part 2 – Please submit three (3) pieces from an assigned set of four designs that will demonstrate your abilities in the areas of:
- Conceptual and Visual Problem Solving. Using visual elements and symbols, create a composition that visually describes a verbal metaphor.
- Design Ability. Using a set of defined elements – spatial, conceptual structural, and possible even auditory stimuli, design a 3D form or spatial environment that satisfies the stated design brief.
- Narrative and Storytelling. Using a set of images write a story in a maximum of 3 paragraphs.
- Drawing and Visualization. Create a drawing of a specific object, demonstrating your skill in handling pencil or pen on paper.

Local Polytechnic Diploma
Applicants, regardless of nationality, presenting the local polytechnic diploma or 5 semester results from one of the five local polytechnics in Singapore; or the local diploma from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), LASALLE College of the Arts or Building and Construction Academy (BCA); or a Diploma in Sports Management & Exercise Science by the Singapore Sports School-Auckland University of Technology (SSS-AUT).
Admission Requirements
You are a Polytechnic Diploma Holder or a Final Year Student from a local polytechnic in Singapore.
- You should have a relevant diploma from a local polytechnic in Singapore.
- If you have a Diploma with Merit or Diploma with Distinction, you may apply for any programme in NTU, regardless your diploma.

Applicants, regardless of nationality, presenting the NUS High School Diploma awarded by NUS High School of Mathematics & Science.
Admission Requirements
You are offering the NUS High School Diploma and must fulfil one of the following Mother Tongue Language (MTL) requirements:
- A pass in MTL ‘B’ or a grade ‘S’ for General Studies in Chinese or H1 MTL or H2
MTLL
at ‘A’ level
- A minimum of D7 in Higher MTL taken at ‘O’ level

APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'A' Level, Local Polytechnic Diploma, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and NUS High School Diploma
Application is done online by submitting an electronic application form during application period. You are required to submit only one (1) electronic application form.
Your online application has been submitted successfully if
- an Application Status Menu showing your application number and summary of application items required to be completed by you is generated, and
- an acknowledgment of your application is forwarded to the email address(es) you have provided in the online application form.
Take note of the unique application number assigned to you for future correspondences. Keep the acknowledgement message as proof of application.
Please note that your application cannot be processed until the application fee and required supporting documents are received within the stipulated deadlines.
For full-Time National Servicemen (NSF) with places already reserved in NTU and who wish to submit new applications may do so by applying under the respective application groups that correspond to your qualifications.
Submission of Supporting Documents
You can choose to submit softcopies of documents by uploading online at the Document Submission Page via the Application Status Menu or hardcopies by post or hand. Online uploading is not applicable for submission of materials required for consideration into the Art, Design & Media programme.
For part-time students, you are required to submit your supporting documents by post or personally to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, Student Services Centre, Level 2, 42 Nanyang Avenue, Singapore 639815. The supporting documents should reach our office within 3 working days from the date of application.
You may access and view under the Application Status Menu if you are required to submit any supporting documents. If there is no link under the Action/Status column of the item Relevant Documents, this means you are not required to submit any documents for verification. If we require more documents from you, we will contact you via email or your contact number.
INTERNATIONAL & OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
You must have completed at least 12 years of general education or will be taking Year 12 national examinations in the year of application in order to be considered for admission.
Application is done online by submitting an electronic application form during application period. You are required to submit only one (1) electronic application form.

Upon successful online submission, take note of the unique application number assigned to you and items to be completed at the tracking page. You may go back to view the same page at Check Status link. An acknowledgment of your application will be forwarded to the email address(es) you have provided in the online application form.
Inaccurate or false information or omission of material information will render your application invalid and those admitted on the basis of such false or incomplete information will be asked to withdraw.
Submission of Supporting Documents
Please use one of the following methods to submit your documents but not both, no later than 1 week after the closing date.
- Upload online. Login to tracking page at Check Status link and go to ‘Checklist’ at ‘Supporting Documents’ link. Click ‘Upload’ at the relevant items to upload your file. As only one file is allowed for uploading for each item, please ensure that you have scanned all pages of your document in a single file in Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF file format before you submit. Each upload should not exceed 5 MB.
- Send by post. Print a copy of Checklist at ‘Supporting Documents’ link at tracking page as the cover page of your supporting documents. Arrange your documents in the order as per checklist and post it to the address
as shown in the checklist. Please do not send original documents.
NTU Entrance Examination
International students with Malaysia STPM, Malaysia UEC, ‘A’ Level (AQA, Brunei, Cambridge, Edexcel, Hong Kong, London, Maldives, Sri Lanka), India Standard 12, Mauritius HSC, PRC Gao Kao, US High School Diploma, German Abitur, French Baccalaureate and IB Qualifications are not required to take the entrance exams. In addition, applicants who have won gold, silver or bronze medals in International Science Olympiad Competitions will be exempted from taking the entrance examination.
Applicants with other qualifications may be required to take an entrance examination before a final decision on admission is made. Details on the examination will be made known to shortlisted applicants.
SAT1 / TOEFL / IELTS
Submission of IELTS, TOEFL and SAT1 scores are optional except for students with PRC Gao Kao qualification (i.e. students who will be taking Gao Kao in June 2010 and those who have already taken Gao Kao). Only scores obtained in the 3 years leading up to the application deadline will be considered.
