Emotion-enabled personalised digital media experience

Research in this area aims to develop novel mathematical model and algorithms to quantify the user's emotion and levels of engagement.
New wireless headsets that meet consumer criteria for wearability, cost, portability and ease-of-use will be available in the market. This makes it possible to use such technology not only in medical applications but in other areas such as entertainment, e-learning, virtual worlds, or even neuro-marketing.

Human cognition enhancement from real-time brain state recognition

In this project, approaches and algorithms are proposed and implemented in real-time application for performance enhancement training. These apply to short-term performance improvement in high risk environment and long-term overall performance improvement.
Real-time brain cognitive process recognition from EEG could be used to optimise personnel workload in high risk environments and also to recognise human emotional state.

Neuro-feedback for pain management

The aims of this project are to propose and implement experiments to validate the hypothesis that “pain has spatio-temporal location in the brain”, to design and implement prognostic modelling algorithms to help guide clinical management and, subsequently, propose and implement neuro-feedback games to treat patients with so-called central pain syndrome.
