2007
This year saw a change in the management of the staff Soccer team. Jan and Francesco took over from the previous convenor and embarked in a process of advertising for and recruiting staff into the team, as well as a PR campaign to get the team more exposure and better treatment from various NTU bodies.
Overall 2007 was a successful year in more ways than one. The team now has around 25 players in the list and this group of players went through a very successful campaign in the biennial ITIS-NUSS tournament.
It was very gratifying to recruit more players considering that we lost a few very important members of last year’s team: Azman, Dickson, Chang Su, Matt and those very fit young staff from NIE!
We also successfully lobbied the SRC (Staff Recreation Club) for new equipment this year. The SRC generously approved a $1600 refit and we managed to get two sets of jerseys along with match balls, training bibs and other stuff. Thanks SRC!!
One sour note for the year is the treatment the team gets from the S&RC (Sports and Recreation Centre) who seem completely student-centric. We had a lot of trouble getting the main field to practice on and a few times our match was called off because he ground was “too wet” and the ground needed to be saved for the student competitions. This was extremely disappointing considering the effort that went into getting the team together and organizing the games. I wonder when the S&RC will treat us with the respect we deserve?
