INTRODUCTION
The
Research & Training Programme is an industry
sponsorship programme initiated by the Economic
Development Board (EDB). Under this programme high-calibre
candidates from good universities are sponsored for a 12
to 15 months of On the Job Training at NTRC in
Optics.
KEY FEATURES
Candidates
sponsored under the Programme would be provided with:
- Stipend
of S$2,000.00 per month
- Medical
insurance of up to S$500
For international candidates relocating to Singapore only
- Settling
in allowance of S$2,500
- Airfare
of up to S$1,000
Candidates selected for the Programme would be required to serve
a 2-year* or 3-year** service period with a
Singapore-based company upon completion of the
training. The company must be approved by EDB before
the candidate accepts the job offer.

SELECTION
CRITERIA
Applicants
must meet the following criteria in order to be
eligible to apply for the Programme:
- Hold
a good undergraduate degree in Electrical &
Electronic Engineering from NUS, NTU or a top
overseas university. A postgraduate degree in
relevant disciplines would be an advantage.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q1.
I am not a Singapore Citizen or a Permanent Resident,
can I apply for the RTP?
All
nationalities are eligible to apply for the Programme.
Q2.
Will I be able to work during the period of training?
Candidates
sponsored under the Programme will not be allowed to
work without prior written permission of the EDB.
Q3.
Who will look for a job for me?
EDB
will try to facilitate job placements for candidates
under the Programme with relevant companies in
Singapore. The candidates will also be allowed to look
for a job in Singapore in areas relevant to their
training. However, EDB’s approval is required before
the candidate can accept a company’s job offer.
Q4.
If I have job offers from EDB’s facilitated
companies and from my own job search effort, which
offer should I take?
For
candidates under the Programme, the job placement
facilitated by EDB will take priority and the
candidate will be required to accept the EDB
facilitated company’s job offer. EDB will facilitate
employment opportunities for candidate to jobs in
their related field of training to the best of its
abilities and subject to current employment
conditions.

What are my chances of being offered a job in
Singapore?
As
per all employment opportunities, the candidate’s
chances of a successful job match depend very much on
the fit between the candidate’s training area and
relevant experience with the company’s needs. The
performance of the candidate at the interview will
also affect his/her chances of a successful job match.
In addition, the business climate at that point in
time will also be an important factor in determining
the success rate of being offered a job.

When will I need to begin employment with the company
after I have accepted a job offer?
The
candidates under Programme should as soon as
practicable upon completion of the training serve the
company in its operations in Singapore.
