Singapore-University of Washington Alliance

The Singapore-University of Washington Alliance (SUWA) in Bioengineering consists of the Distributed Diagnosis and Home Healthcare (D2H2) and Engineered Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering (EBMTE) initiatives. The Alliance represents a formal agreement between researchers and educators in Singapore and their counterparts at the University of Washington (UW) and its Department of Bioengineering.

SUWA Profile

The collaboration agreement between A*STAR, NTU and UW for SUWA was signed in May 2002. Preliminary work on SUWA initiatives and projects started in July 2002. In addition to commitment and support by NTU and UW, the Alliance has obtained substantial funding from A*STAR for the duration of research for 5 years up to September 2007.

At NTU, the R&D activities pertaining to SUWA are carried out mainly at the Biomedical Engineering Research Centre facilities at the Research TechnoPlaza. The Research TechnoPlaza is a modern research complex with various strategic research corridors. SUWA research activities are also carried out in various laboratories in NTU as well as UW.

At present, there are NTU and UW academic and research staff and research students, and members from the Heart Institute, National Heart Centre and National Skin Centre in Singapore, conducting research in SUWA.
