The SUWA Engineered Biomaterials
and Tissue Engineering (EBMTE) initiative is a multidisciplinary program involving research
and education to increase the number of researchers who have a well-integrated
knowledge of cell biology, clinical sciences, materials science and engineering.
The current focus of the EBMTE initiative is the development of a clinically useful esophageal replacement by the technique of tissue engineering. Achievement of this goal will lead to tissue engineered constructs that could replace all parts of the gastrointestinal tract.
