In the post genome era today, study of structural and functional biology plays an increasingly important role. Here we are pleased to announce 2005 Asia-Pacific Bioinformatics Conference (APBC2005 <http://www.deakin.edu.au/~phoebe/APBC2005/>) will have a 1-day meeting for the special interest group on Structural Bio-Informatics (SIGStructure <http://www.ntu.edu.sg/birc/sigstructure>). SIGStructure aims to provide an opportunity for people to exchange their research work in the important and fast growing field of 3D Bio-informatics. The meeting is designed for those researchers (biologists, mathematicians, geometricians, computer scientists and engineers) who are interested in 3D Structural Biology.

Topics of the SIGStructure includes (but is not limited to) Protein Annotation, Protein Threading, Protein Fold Recognition,Geometric Representation and Processing in Nano-Bio Scale,Role of Geometry and of Energetics in Protein Structure and Function, Secondary Structure, Supersecondary Structure, Motif, and Domain Assignment,Docking and Protein-Protein/Ligand Interaction,Protein Surface Modeling, Protein Simulation, Protein Visualization, Structural Databases, 3D Data-mining, Pathway Information Literature Mining, 3D Programming Modules, Structure-based Function Prediction, Membrane Protein Assembly, Structure Prediction, and Structural Genomics.

A combination of plenary lectures, short presentations, and laptop sessions should provide a good anchor for a program in which researchers will be able to interact. Detailed abstracts submitted (no more than two pages) will undergo a panel review process. Accepted abstracts will be published in the SIGStructure abstract book of APBC2005.

Selected best detailed abastracts will be invited to submit their enhanced version for the possible publication with the Journal of BioInformatics and Computational Biology (http://www.worldscinet.com/jbcb/mkt/editorial.shtml).
