Degree Programmes and Requirements


Master of Science (M.Sc.) by Research

Students are required to undertake a research project and submit a thesis for examination based on research work completed during the programme, generally over one to three years. An oral examination may be prescribed at the discretion of the Board of Examiners. At the same time, students are required to attend three modular programmes of relevant courses and pass the examination of these courses with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B-).


Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) by Research

Students are required to undertake an independent but supervised research project, generally over three to five years. Students are also required to attend six modular programmes of relevant courses and pass the examinations of these courses with minimum GPA of 3.5 (B). Potential PhD candidates are required to (a) pass an oral examination based on their project progress and (b) satisfy the programme requirements, within 18 months of enrolment to the programme, in order to confirm their candidatures. At the end of the programme, students will submit a thesis for examination based on their research. They are required to pass an oral examination based on the thesis and related research areas.
