Dear Students,

We’ve all heard of Career Development – a topic which has been widely discussed and commonly found in internet searches. It talks about how we can progress to take on greater responsibilities and higher office appointments. However, very little is discussed about a lesser-known topic - Occupation Development.

Some may wonder: Isn’t that the same as career development? It sounds similar if you match word for word but, it is quite different.

Occupation Development, in my context, addresses a person’s competencies from the early stages of going through a career to options that go beyond personal capabilities to guide others. I’ve tested the concept on many examples – from the highest office bearers (e.g. Presidents, Government Officials, Managers, etc.) to basic labourers, janitors or even the eatery cleaners. It all applies.

As you embark on your undergraduate journey, the possibilities of your future career prospects will unfold before you. It’s the time where you set the stage for your professional growth. Understanding the significance of occupation development and actively engaging in its exploration will empower you to own your roadmap towards career success.

To enhance your understanding of this concept, I have compiled a list summarising the ten levels of occupation or career personal development.  Please note: It’s neither a compulsory list nor a score chart to get a ten-out-of-ten. But if you can attain all the parts, you will likely leave behind a good legacy.
