In this talk, a scalable audio streaming system that is based on MPEG-4 SLS is presented. The scalable audio streaming system is capable to deliver optimum quality audio streaming under varying network conditions up to perfect fidelity condition. In the proposed system, a rate control mechanism is implemented to control the target quality of the streaming audio, and vary the instantaneous rate of streaming audio to achieve this target quality. To ensure best possible quality of the streamed audio, the target quality is jointly determined by both the available streaming bandwidth, and the R-D relationship of the SLS coded.
