The conversion of the TRs will be completed over 3 phases, which will eventually see all campus TRs accorded this new design and layout. For the purpose of reference, we have named the different TR types as follows:
TR | TR represents the current TRs designed previously on campus. By and large, the room design supports the Instructor-Led Training (ILT), in which all seats face the front. Typically the instructor then stand in front of the class; due to this physical set-up, interactions tend to be dominated between instructor to learner (I-L), with little learner-learner (L-L).During the 3 phases, there will be a mixture of TR, TR+ and TRx (see below for details). You will have an idea of the type of TR by the suffix. Eventually, all TR and TRx will become TR+. When that happens (probably in year 2013), we will revert to the original “TR” label. The room numbering of the TRs will be rationalized with time due to the larger room size of the TR+, which necessitate more floor space requirement. This is done by, in some cases, combining 3 TRs to form 2 TR+s. The loss of some TRs will therefore break the numbering sequence which we are all familiar with.

TRx | TRx stands for Tutorial Rooms Experimental. This is established as part of the BRC implementation.Current, there are 3 TRx (TRx43, TRx44 and TRx122) which have been upgraded to experiment and test the design. Since AY2010/11 Sem II, several faculty have already been using them. We have received very useful feedback from both faculty and students. Students, especially, have been very positive. This reflects very well with their Gen Y characteristics, coupled with the faculty taking full advantage of the new teaching facilities.Today, we therefore have a mix of TR (majority) and TRx (only 3).

TR+ | TR+ will evolve from lessons learned in the TRx. All TRs of today will eventually be upgraded to TR+.The TRx will still be available in the early phases of the upgrading project, and will subsequently join the pool of increasing TR+, and be named as such. |
