IA in Scotland
by Gan Lian Yew, EEE 4

I was filled with excitement when I was informed that I was selected for an overseas IA with ScottishPower plc.  I arrived in Glasgow on 5 January 1998 and was greeted by the welcoming snow of winter.

The weather in Glasgow is fairly cold, but I was always filled with the warmth and the friendliness of the Scotch.  The Scotch are one of the friendliest peoples in the world.

I was assigned to the Metering department of ScottishPower plc, situated in Yoker.  My department is responsible for commissioning and servicing of electrical meters in UK.  During the attachment, I was granted the opportunity to handle sophisticated state-of-the-art metering equipment.  With the help of my fellow colleagues and guidance of my superior, I had no problem settling down.

Snow covered mountains, rivers and valleys, the beauty of nature.  You find them all in Scotland.  The north of Scotland and the highland are great places to visit.

Coming to Scotland on attachment with ScottishPower plc, is an experience of a lifetime.  I wish to express my utmost gratitude to my Strathclyde University tutor Dr Siew, organisation manager, Mr Ian Yorkston, supervisor, Mr Euan Kilpatrick, for their guidance, and Mrs Loh Ai Hwa for her help and advice.

Ciao (bye bye in Scottish)
