My 24-week industrial attachment with Kumagai Gumi Co Ltd was a fascinating experience for me.  It was the first time that I was able to apply all the knowledge that I have absorbed in my undergraduate studies into real practice.  This was also the most interesting and fun period throughout my years of study.

Kumagai Gumi Co Ltd which is in fact one of the top ten construction Japanese companies in Singapore is mainly involved in construction of transportation facilities, housing estate and industrial buildings.  The main emphasis of my industrial attachment with Kumagai Gumi was to learn about the local quality control, construction schedule and most importantly the latest construction methodology of buildings.

I underwent intensive training at Kumagai Gumi, under the supervision of my company supervisor.  I was taught how to conduct proper surveying works and inspection of various structural components, and also how to construct the construction schedule by using the Microsoft Project software.  Additionally, I was given the freedom to explore whatever areas of construction available in my company.  I was also able to interact with a lot of foreign workers who came from various countries in Asia.  All these were very valuable experiences for me.

Apart from acquiring construction skills, I was able to develop my communication skills and have a chance to look at the actual management of a construction company.  The learning process was fun and exciting as well, the latter because there were a lot of dangerous areas in the actual construction site.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole construction  team at Kumagai Gumi and also my IA supervisor for their great assistance which had enabled me to complete my industrial attachment.  The experience gained will be most beneficial for me.
