Lorraine Elliott

Professor Lorraine Elliott
Visiting Senior Fellow & Lead Researcher of the Climate Change, Environmental Security and Natural Disasters Programme
(July 2009 - December 2011)





Lorraine Elliott is a Professor in the Department of International Relations, School of International, Political & Strategic Studies at The Australian National University. She is also Associate Dean (Higher Degree Research) for the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific. She is currently Adviser to the Climate Change, Environmental Security and Natural Disasters Programme at the Centre for Non-Traditional Security (NTS) Studies in the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University. Prof. Elliott has also held the appointment of Reader in International Relations at the University of Warwick in the UK, and visiting appointments at the University of Oxford (Balliol College), the Asia Research Centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Keele, and the Institute for Environmental Studies at the Free University of Amsterdam. She is a member of the Council for Security Cooperation Asia Pacific (CSCAP), a member of the governance board of the ANU Climate Change Institute, and has recently been appointed to a three year term on the Board of Directors for the Academic Council for the United Nations System (ACUNS).

Prof. Elliott researches, publishes and teaches in the areas of non-traditional security including human security, climate security and environmental security, global environmental governance, transnational environmental crime, and Australian foreign policy (again with a focus on international environmental issues). She is the author of more than 70 book chapters and journal articles on these topics. Her publications also include books on Antarctic environmental politics, cosmopolitan militaries, and two editions of The Global Politics of the Environment (Palgrave Macmillan 1998 and 2004). She has held grants from the Australian Research Council, the Canadian government, the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences and the United States Institute of Peace.
