In Singapore you can buy just
about everything that is edible from anywhere in the world. It’s a great place to shop, and you can spend
as much (or as little) as you like.
This page gives information on
places to shop for food and
is organised according to cost, with shops listed in order of proximity to the
campus.
Budget/cheap food shopping:
·
The Grocer; a 24-hr convenient
store located right by the
·
Nanyang Supermarket; has a small but more range
of goods than Grocer that caters to the staff and students on campus
·
7-11, near Canteen A
·
Prime Supermarket in Jurong West: There are stalls with fresh fruit, vegetables,
dried goods and meats. They stock mostly
Asian food with a focus on local clients.
They are open until
Wet Markets: one on 52nd street (Block
502) by McDonald's and the other by Boon Lay Shopping Center - morning only from
5am onwards.

Jurong West Ave. 4 and Jurong West St. 61.

·
Cold Storage supermarkets with many
outlets, the closest ones being at King Albert Park or Jelita
at Holland Village. Cold Storage, like a
number of other suppliers offers an internet shopping service.
Western:
The
supermarkets at Tanglin Mall and Raffles City Centre
will import from around the world, but focus on the Western Expatriate
customers. Western specialty shops along Bukit Timah
Road have just about everything that would make you feel at home if you from a
culturally western country. These
include shops specializing in cheese and wine and French bakery goods (The
Cellar Door, Choupinette), German foods (the German
Market Place), a Swiss Butcher (on Greenwood Avenue), Culina (in Bukit Timah, which sells fresh herbs
such as basil, Italian parsley, sage, rosemary), all the different French and
Italian cheeses and wine, Italian pasta and pasta sauces as well as garden
salad which is usually 50% of what it costs to buy in Cold Storage (they even
have figs when it is in season) and many more.

listings of gourmet and specialty stores, follow this link from entersingapore.info.
Indian:
Indian
speciality shops, covering everything from fresh vegetables to spices and
special flours can be found along Serangoon Road in
Little India. Mustafa is a 24 hour
department store, selling just about everything. It has several stories of gold, hi-fi
equipment, household goods and fresh and dried groceries from around the world
including different regions of India. It
has been said that Indians visiting Singapore will go to Mustafa’s to shop for
foods and goods from other Indian regions that are not available in the area
they live in India. In addition, the usual curry mixes and some of the common
vegetables used in Indian cooking are available in both Jurong
West and Jurong Point.
Chinese:
As
about 80% of Singaporeans are of Chinese origin, most of the spices, dried
goods, special vegetables, soyabean products and meat
cuts are available in local stores and wet markets. There are two stores at Jurong
Point and one at Jurong West (Nanyang
CC) that will have ingredients for your tonics and health soups. Of course,
China Town will have more specialized ingredients for some dishes that are from
northern, central or western China.
