Research Position IN Smart E-Science Cyberinfrastructure for Urban Sustainability and Smart Cities

The Intelligent Systems Centre (IntelliSys) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is working on various R&D issues in sensor networks and cyber-physical systems in order to develop impactful applications for large-scale deployment in Singapore.

We have developed and deployed several large-scale sensor networks such as the National Weather Sensor Grid (http://nwsp.ntu.edu.sg), the WaterWise@SG (http://aqueduct.nus.edu.sg/waterwise/), etc in Singapore.

Building upon our experience and expertise, we are embarking on ambitious projects to develop and deploy unified city-scale sensor networks and cyber-physical infrastructures for urban sustainability and smart cities applications such as environmental monitoring, water infrastructure monitoring, intelligent transportation, smart buildings, smart grids, etc. We are developing a Smart e-Science Cyberinfrastructure to address the comprehensive data management needs of these projects and applications.

We are inviting applications for the following research position.

1. Research Scientist / Research Fellow

Responsibilities :

• Work with other members of the team in the design and development of city-scale sensor networks and cyber-physical systems.
• Design and develop the Smart e-Science Cyberinfrastructure for efficient data management, exchange and sharing across different applications and organizations.
• Design and develop a scalable framework for the management of real-time sensor data.
• Design and develop semantic web and ontology design techniques.
• Design and develop middleware services for data management in a cloud computing environment.
• Prototype novel applications for urban sustainability and smart cities.

Requirements:

• A PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
• Substantial expertise in one or more of the following areas: sensor networks, cyber-physical systems, sensor data management, e-Science cyberinfrastructure, service-oriented architecture, semantic web, ontology design, grid and cloud computing.
• Substantial hands-on experience in the development of data management systems and system software.
• Excellent programming skills in C/C++. Java, etc.
• Excellent analytical, technical and problem solving skills.
