PhD Scholarship in the area of Image Processing

Full-time Research Position in Media Processing and Mobile Systems

The School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University is offering a few full-time research positions in the area of Media Processing and Mobile Systems. The project is expected to last for 3 years.

The project will develop a media retrieval system consisting of local mobile portals with key components such as content analysis, knowledge propagation, and user-system interfaces, with provisions to include other modules of content creation, media annotation, content delivery, interconnection to other mobile portals and information systems. This system will be prototyped through selected mobile media applications such as shopping experience in a mall and/or personalized mobile learning in a museum.

Positions available

Job Position 1:

Research Fellow (RF) or Research Assistant (RA)

Job Responsibilities :

The applicant will work in a team to develop a system prototype that integrates Wi-Fi communication system, mobile portal and client software for mobile media applications. The applicant will need to develop algorithms to perform media content analysis and processing, and integrate these techniques into the system prototype.

Requirements/Skills of Candidate:

A PhD or Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related disciplines. Applicants with the following skills are strongly encouraged to apply:

· Good knowledge in image/video processing and pattern recognition

· Knowledge in wireless communications

· Good programming skills, particularly in Java and Windows programming for Web, Mobile, and Database Applications

· Good written and oral communication skills

Job Position 2:

Research Assistant (RA)

Job Responsibilities:

The applicant will work in a team to develop a system prototype that integrates Wi-Fi communication system, mobile portal and client software for mobile media applications.

Requirements/Skills of Candidate:

A Bachelor or Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related disciplines. Applicants from Singapore and ASEAN countries with the following skills are strongly encouraged to apply:

· Knowledge in wireless communications

· Good Java and Windows programming skills for Web, Mobile, and Database Applications

· Knowledge in networking and network protocols

· Knowledge in deployment and planning of wireless installation, wireless access points and routers
