Dorjee Sun is CEO of Carbon Conservation and is passionate about forests, community development, conservation and climate change. Carbon Conservation’s projects incentivize the preservation of tropical rainforests by helping forest owners and local communities generate alternative revenues through the carbon finance market.  Since establishment, CC has been engaging in ongoing projects to protect Asia’s vast rainforests and biodiversity. One such project in Aceh, Indonesia, won the Carbon Finance Deal of the Year award 2008. This avoided deforestation project was also the subject of an award winning documentary, “The Burning Season”, which explained how orang-utan conservation and avoided deforestation could be tied in to generate alternative monetary incentives. On 20th April 2009, the African Rainforest Conservancy honoured Dorjee by naming a newly discovered blue spotted species of chameleon from the Tanzania rainforest – the Kinyongia dorjeesuni - after him. In September 2009, Dorjee also won the Asialink Leaders Program Alumni Award 2009. Recently Time Magazine has also named him as a Time Magazine Environmental Hero for 2009.

Prior to Carbon Conservation, Dorjee was the founder of a recruitment software company with offices in Melbourne and London, and an award winning education company which mentored over 25,000 students in 2004 (later acquired by an ASX listed company). With an interest in viral marketing and social media software, Dorjee started VirtualVillager.com, a software company building virtual villages for business and government. The company's projects include AsiaGroove.com, the world's first asian youth pop-culture collaborative community (with webTV and a peer production platform) and MyAutosalon.com focusing on youth car culture.

He graduated from UNSW with Law and Commerce degrees, and also studied for 2 years on scholarship at Peking University in China. As a University of Melbourne Asialink Asia Australia Leader, Youth Chair of the Ethnic Communities Council, university Law Society President, Education Technology Advisory Board member and as a speaker on boards and conferences, he has spoken at the Future Summit, AsiaConnect and the World Summit on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Australian Davos Leadership retreat and other think tanks. More recently, he spoke at Singapore’s 2009 APEC conference panel on climate change.

Dorjee Sun in his capacity as CEO of Carbon Conservation has also organized various high level conferences such as in the Green Governor’s Gala during the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 13th Conference of Parties in 2007, which resulted in a historic joint declaration supporting the exploration of Avoided Deforestation signed on by the Governors of Aceh, Papua, West Papua in Indonesia and Amazonas, Brazil. More recently, Carbon Conservation also organized a Green Governors’ Lunch together with the Asian Development Bank, bringing together governors and leaders from Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos and various NGOs to discuss Reducing Emissions from Deforestation in Developing Countries (REDD) and climate change.
