A basic knowledge of
business and corporate finance is essential for
any non-financial management and professionals
to function effectively in his/her current
capacity. The ability to understand financial
jargons is not only useful as a life skill, but
a much needed requirement for non-financial
professionals occupying or about to assume a
greater leadership role in the organization.
In this program, participants will learn how to
determine the financial health of a business.
Participants will appreciate the need for
allocation of scarce financial resources and
tighter financial management so as to obtain the
best financial value-add for the company.
Participants will learn not only the thoughts
that go into building up a financial case for a
new capital project, but also learn how to use
the various common financial tools to justify
for a new capital project. Finally, participants
will be introduced to the types of costs and
their behaviour, and how these could be used to
determine the breakeven of a business, and
forecast profitability under various simulated
sales volumes. |

for Engineering Materials, Structures and
Devices |
Course Fee:
S$1048.60
Subsidised Fee: S$663.40
|
In manufacturing a
component or constructing a structure, design
engineers typically consider pertinent factors
such as functional requirements, reliability,
safety, cost and adverse environmental
conditions that might potentially affect their
design. Quite unfortunately, however, we
regularly come across failure of various
engineering designs due to limitations in
material performance having been altogether
overlooked or critical loading conditions having
been conveniently ignored in the analysis. In a
nutshell, this course on Engineering Materials
Failure Analysis aims to prevent engineering
failures (and disasters) by reviewing real life
failures. In addition, relevant aspects of the
mechanical behaviour of materials to the design
process are explored and explained. |

DIY Analytics – Making data-driven decisions for a more profitable business (NEWLY FUNDED IN 2017) |
Course Fee: S$631.30
Subsidised Fee: S$374.50
|
There is a growing trend amongst companies using analytics to identify gaps, trends and benchmark their business with others. Companies spend billions of dollars annually on business intelligence tools for the simple reason that it drives the top and bottom line. According to Gartner, business intelligence has been the number one technology for the past three years running and surveys have shown that it is the second most important “application and technology issue” after anti-virus protection.
However, deriving insights from data analytics is NOT the domain of large companies. Even small companies (SMEs) and start-ups can benefit from it. Data Analytics is NOT just about IT solutions and tools; rather it is a methodology and process that is independent of IT. Insights from Data Analytics is NOT solely about amassing large amounts of information and data and applying technology to see trends and patterns; it is about knowing what to collect in a timely manner and that will feed into and add value to the decision-making process.
