Students, What’s the future of
healthcare industry in Singapore looking like? With a rapidly ageing society
driving the demand for healthcare and eldercare services, it is creating more
job opportunities, making it one of the largest and fastest growing industry
in the country. In today’s issue, let’s explore the evolving trends within
the healthcare industry, with a focus on Long-Term Care (LTC) and integration
of technology. LONG-TERM CARE (LTC)
Prior to the pandemic, Long-Term Care (LTC) in Singapore has already been evolving in
response to the growing demands, health and personal care needs of our ageing
population. Initially, the focus was on institutionalised and highly
medicalised custodial care. As the industry progressed, it introduced new
services such as community living, integrated home and daycare services, and home care tech platforms. Now, we are entering the era of LTC 3.0, where
digital technology will play a paramount role in providing efficient and
seamless access to various care and service settings – both online and
offline. You may also notice the
progress towards LTC 3.0 with these collaborations that happened this year:
TECH-ENABLED HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY Additionally, the
Ministry of Health’s commitment to enhancing senior care through technology
is evident in various ongoing projects highlighted in their News
Highlights. Expect to see the following
implementations in the industry: ·
A
web-based health management system integrating technology with home care
services, including smart home sensors, medication adherence, and meal
planning and delivery. ·
Sensor-enabled
fall detection system. ·
Utilisation
of telehealth for remote monitoring of vitals, assessing mental and emotional
well-being, and delivery of care services. ·
Ongoing
trials to introduce companion robots developed in other countries, such as
Japan, into nursing homes and community hospitals to improve seniors’ social
engagement. With
all the transformations ongoing in the healthcare industry, it is an exciting
