Dear Students,

Singapore Airshow 2024 wrapped up recently, and it was a record-breaker with over 60,000 trade show attendees and another 60,000 public day attendees. Mirroring the dazzling aerial displays were major announcements by industry giants that paint a vibrant picture for the future of Singapore's aerospace industry.

S$750 million! This much investment was committed across 10 aerospace projects in Singapore over the next three to five years, according to the Economic Development Board. These investments are expected to create over 2,500 new jobs, presenting exciting career opportunities for you! These investments also highlight the growing importance of Singapore in the global aerospace scene. Of note was the strong emphasis on innovation, next-generation aerospace manufacturing, as well as advanced Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities.

Here are some developments that should be on your radar:

Eagle Services Asia, a joint venture between Pratt & Whitney and SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC), launched an expanded facility that will increase its engine MRO capacity by 60%. The new site integrates robotics and automation solutions developed here in Singapore by Pratt & Whitney’s Singapore Technology Accelerator.

Pratt & Whitney also committed to invest S$27 million to expand its manufacturing capacity at Seletar Aerospace Park (SAP), to produce more crucial components for its GTF engines. Pratt & Whitney Canada, which also has a presence in Singapore, will add a new MRO line for its engine that powers the Leonardo AQ139 helicopters.

Singapore Aero Engine Services (SAESL), a joint venture between Rolls-Royce and SIAEC, announced a S$242 million expansion in Singapore that will increase their engine MRO capacity by 40% and create 500 new engineering jobs over the next 5 years! With the expansion, SAESL aims to develop new MRO processes, core digital technology and Industry 4.0 capabilities.

GE Aerospace is investing S$14.8 million to transform its Singapore engine repair facility, into a "Smart Factory," featuring automated systems, innovative processes, and digitalisation technologies. GE Aerospace’s facilities in Singapore accounts for more than 60% of the company’s global repair volumes!

Safran Electrical & Power will open a brand new 2,800 sqm facility in SAP for manufacturing and MRO of aeronautical electrical equipment.

Barnes Aerospace has expanded its engine component repair footprint in SAP by 50% to cater to growing demand from its customers across Asia.

Apart from these investments, there were also significant announcements underscoring Singapore’s focus on aviation sustainability, startups, and emerging sectors, as well as training and skills development.
