Dear Students,

Have you ever wondered what it’s like working in the construction industry? Is it days and nights of being on construction sites with hard hats? Fortunately, things have changed, and that is no longer the case. Recently, we surveyed students who are studying in built environment on what could be some thoughts, motivations, and concerns they have about entering this dynamic field.

Here’s what we found:

A Bright Future Awaits

Despite the industry's well-known challenges, over 50% of students see construction as a field filled with rewarding opportunities. Why? Because it allows you to build something tangible and lasting—whether it's a cutting-edge skyscraper, an eco-friendly home, or a resilient infrastructure network.

In fact, 49% of respondents said their passion for building and creating is what draws them in. Beyond salary and benefits, the chance to leave a mark on the world is a key driver for young professionals.

Overcoming Concerns to Shape the Future

It's no secret that concerns over long hours and safety can weigh on students’ minds. But the industry is evolving, with companies like Teambuild Engineering & Construction leading the charge by integrating innovative technologies. These include Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) and Building Information Modeling (BIM), which enhance safety, streamline processes, and improve work-life balance.

As Ms. Jane Pang, Senior HR Manager at Teambuild, explains: “By prioritising safety and using the latest technologies, we create a safer, more appealing environment for young professionals who want to make an impact.”
