Dear Students,

Did you know that the term Artificial Intelligence (AI) was coined in 1956? Fast forward to 2024 and it is everywhere, AI has quietly snuck into every aspect of our daily lives, transforming how we work and play. But do we know how to make the most of this digital buddy?

At ASME, we’re on a mission to help SMEs excel. We know AI is the game-changer that will change how the world works. To enable and empower SMEs and aspiring entrepreneurs to be able to harness AI for their business, ASME is launching a series of cool initiatives to help them excel. These initiatives are designed to give SMEs the skills and tools to use AI like pros, no matter their size, age, or industry – we’re non-discriminatory.

One of our star initiatives to help SMEs lead the AI Revolution, is our inaugural AI Festival Asia (AIFA). Set to kick off in the first quarter of 2025, this festival will bring together industry leaders, AI wizards, and business owners to dive into the latest AI tech and its applications. AIFA aims to be a hub for networking, learning, and collaboration; creating a space where SMEs can thrive in the digital age.

But wait, there’s more! Leading up to AIFA, ASME, in partnership with Straits Interactive, launched the National AI Prompt Design Challenge this year. This challenge was about encouraging participation, learning, and applying digital skills to real-life challenges, offering both youth and open categories. The youth category, held in June, saw participants aged 13 to 25 from Secondary Schools, Junior Colleges, and Institutes of High Learning, including two teams made up of NTU students! The open category took place in August, with over 100 teams from SMEs demonstrating their unique perspectives and creativity. The challenge was a huge hit, that not only showcased the potential of local talent but also highlighted the importance of digital literacy in today’s world.
