Dear Students, Have
you ever considered the significance and influence of standards on the
products we encounter daily? It may be easily overlooked by consumers like
us, but standards play a crucial role in ensuring consistent product quality,
safety assurance, increased productivity, and environmental protection. In
Singapore’s Chemical industry, talents are sought-after to be part of this
mission to develop, maintain and uphold stringent standards. This vital and
continuous effort contributes to building trust in our country's products and
services, facilitates trade, and creates new market opportunities. Let
us now show you a glimpse into the world of standards within the
chemical industry. STANDARDISATION
IN SINGAPORE’S CHEMICAL INDUSTRY Enterprise
Singapore (ESG) administers the National Standardisation Programme under the
guidance of the industry-led Standards Council of Singapore. Appointed by
ESG, the Singapore Chemical Industry Council (SCIC) serves as the Standards
Development Organisation (SDO), responsible for managing the Chemical
Standards Committee (CSC) and the Environment & Resources Standards
Committee (ERSC). SCIC
coordinates standards development projects, encourages industry
participation, and promotes the adoption of standards to raise public
awareness. The CSC focuses on standards for chemical and chemical-related
products to safeguard public health and the environment, while the ERSC
focuses on standards related to climate change, circular economy, sustainable
energy, and clean technologies. To
enhance industry competitiveness and support regulatory frameworks, the
national standards developed by the CSC and ERSC align with Singapore's Energy and
Chemical Industry Transformation Roadmap as well as its sustainability and
climate change initiatives. Furthermore, Singapore actively participates in
the development of international standards, particularly those relevant to
new technologies and emerging industries. Curious
to learn more about the wide range of standards under the purview of CSC and
ERSC? We have curated a list of examples, categorised according to their
focus areas: · Safeguarding Health and Safety at
Workplaces · Enhancing Productivity and Trust · Improving Resource Efficiency · Supporting Environmental
Sustainability By
actively engaging in the development and adoption of standards, Singapore's
chemical industry not only bolsters its competitiveness but also ensures the highest
levels of safety and quality, while making significant contributions towards
achieving sustainable development goals. Have
