The Built Environment (BE) sector
forms the building blocks of Singapore, supporting its growth by building
the homes we live in, our transport networks, and iconic structures like
Jewel Changi Airport, Gardens by the Bay and so much more. Much has been
accomplished over the last 50 years, but there is still more ahead of us as
we are never done building Singapore. Are you game enough to pick up this
very meaningful baton?

Our BE sector transforms together
with our city, creating plentiful opportunities for career growth and
fulfilment.
Leveraging technologies like big
data and AI, the BE sector has reduced reliance on manual labour – making
processes more efficient and using data-driven approaches to make daily
work more satisfying. The way we inspect building façades, for instance,
has evolved from traditionally labour-intensive methods of using binoculars
and cameras, to using drone inspection systems integrated with AI for
defect detection.

Many firms have also raised
their HR standards, with over 20 built environment firms making it to the top
200 list of Singapore’s Best Employers this year based on a survey by The
Straits Times and Statista. Taking Arup, a global design and engineering
company for example, employees get to upgrade their skills with courses on
new techniques and practices throughout their career, and
have opportunities to enrich their professional experience through
community service.
As executives in the BE sector
seek out best practices to improve their companies, many will congregate at
the upcoming International
Built Environment Week (IBEW)
from 5-9 September, consisting of the BEX Asia exhibition and the IBEW Conference.
Catch the IBEW Conference from 6-8 September for a showcase of the latest
trends relating to the BE sector.
To register for online access to
the Conference at a student rate of S$60 per person (before GST), email ibew@rxglobal.com using your
educational institution's email with your course name and year.
We stand at the cusp of the next
wave of growth for the BE sector and we hope you can be part of this
exciting journey to make Singapore a better place to live, work and play
in.
