Dear Students,

What are your plans after graduation? You may be thinking about entering the workforce or perhaps even furthering your studies.

At Healthcare Scholarships, we have a vast array of scholarships that are applicable to students. If you have thought about furthering your studies upon graduating from NTU, you may wish to apply for our postgraduate scholarships.

The Healthcare Graduate Studies Award (HGSA) is a postgraduate scholarship awarded to individuals who are keen to join the public healthcare sector while demonstrating academic excellence and community spirit. Scholars will be part of a team of healthcare professionals providing direct care to patients or working with policy makers or IT systems professionals to improve the Singapore public healthcare system. You can select from various courses of study such as Public Health, Business/Data Analytics, Clinical Psychology and more.

We catch up with two of our HGSA scholars to hear from them about their scholarship journey, where they are now and words of advice.

During my double degree programme in Biomedical Sciences and Traditional Chinese Medicine at NTU, I found my interest in healthcare. I was then awarded the scholarship to pursue a Master’s in Business Analytics at NUS.

I am currently part of the data science team in IHiS which supports population health initiatives and clinical operations efficiency for our public healthcare institutions. As a Data Scientist, I am involved in data processing, data analysis and modelling to solve various kinds of problems within the healthcare domain. The work is challenging, and contrary to belief, not mundane as we have to be creative in coming up with novel solutions to improve patient outcomes. A career in healthtech is extremely rewarding as it gives me a strong sense of fulfilment and meaning.

To all students, do keep an open mind to new experiences and always be willing to learn something new!

I kick-started my healthcare journey with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (Honours) in NTU and decided to further my studies by taking up HGSA to pursue a Master of Psychology (Clinical) at NUS. It was through working at a family service centre – working with individuals and families with various mental health/healthcare needs – that sparked my interest in wanting to support individuals with mental health needs. I am currently working as a Clinical Psychologist, where I provide psychotherapy and psychological diagnostic assessments for adolescents and young adults.

As a scholar, I was given the opportunity to attend several training courses to fine tune my competencies as a clinical psychologist and had the chance to build strong networks with fellow healthcare scholars.

To aspiring scholars who are keen to join me in a fulfilling career in public health: I encourage you to keep an open mind and try to gain as much relevant ground experience in your respective disciplines during your undergraduate and initial working years. I look forward to welcoming you to the healthcare family! 😊
