Dear Students,

Even before Covid-19 descended on and disrupted our lives, many significant changes were altering the way we live, work and play. In particular, hyper-connectivity and mass proliferation of mobile messaging enabled the boom of e-commerce, apps, and social media platforms.

Consumer behaviours were in turn changing rapidly. Together with the accelerated impact of Covid-19 in the past two years, the push for transparent and speedy fulfilment of online on-demand services hastened and placed tremendous pressure on logistics and supply chains globally.

To meet the velocity, convenience, and real-time visibility that retailers demand, logistics service providers (LSPs) quickly revamped capacities and added digital capabilities. Many adopted digital technologies to transform and operate at a hyperactive tempo and efficiency level. Traditional logistics were no longer sufficient to meet these demand shifts, and Singapore's push for a digital-enabled workforce puts #SGLogistics in a competitive position to ride this new global norm.

Like many other industries, the emergence of new digital technologies and platforms disrupted existing business models while enabling new service offerings. Consequently, LSPs have also adapted and initiated logistics technologies (LogTech) to seamlessly connect, collaborate, and control. This gave rise to an agile and collaborative form of integrated logistics that ultimately enhanced LSPs’ service offerings and global competitiveness.

In simplifying and aiding digitalisation for LSPs, we witnessed budding Singapore trailblazing start-ups such as Haulio, SEA’s largest container haulage platform, and Shipp, the world’s first digital freight forwarding platform focused on the supply-chain of global marine supplies, bringing fast-moving transformations to not only Singapore, but the region’s way of operating logistics. Besides vertically specialised platforms such as haulage or marine supplies, there are also digital platforms like CALISTA that helps connect and drive activities of the entire logistics ecosystem from regulatory and financial activities, to orchestrating inventories and order fulfilments for customers.

We are in an era that requires real-time orchestration of logistics capabilities which only LogTech can help strengthen and fill the gap globally. The longevity and prosperity of any business will eventually depend on the ability to fulfil logistically, and LogTech will undeniably continue to play a critical role in securing Singapore’s foothold as a global logistics hub now, and in the future.

Have what it takes to join this highly exciting, vibrant, and progressive sector? #SGLogistics welcomes action lovers and thinkers who find joy in solving problems, to join us in this meaningful mission to solve everyday real-world problems for our community and nation!
