Highlights of the
week:
For more career opportunities
from various industries, please access Career Axis. Dear Students, The life sciences industry continues to see rapid growth within
the APAC region. With our supportive business environment and ecosystem,
Singapore is a leading hub for biopharma manufacturing, R&D and
commercial operations within the region. At the opening of the new facility of Singapore-based biomedical
start-up Hummingbird Bioscience back in September, DPM Mr Heng Swee Keat had shared that the biomedical sciences are now a
key pillar in Singapore's manufacturing economy. Just last month, Global medical technology company ResMed has officially opened its
largest advanced manufacturing centre in Singapore.
Senior Minister Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who was the guest-of-honour
at the plant’s opening, cited that the sector is poised to grow further,
especially in areas such as diagnostics, automated solutions that can reduce
the burden of healthcare workers, and contactless, digitally enabled devices
that can provide predictive insights. Further, despite the tight labour
market and higher labour costs, Chief executive Michael Farrell shared that
the Singapore offers the right talent ResMed needs for data analytics,
material science, materials engineering and
commercial innovation. Bolstered by such increasing biotech investments and
accelerating healthcare research, the biomedical sciences (BMS) industry has
experienced strong growth in recent years, further reinforcing Singapore’s position
as a leading biomedical science hub at the heart of Asia. Additional factors spurring the growth of Singapore’s biomedical
industry include: ·
