Dear Students,

Air travel is taking off and bustling, more so now that we are approaching the year end festivities! It wasn’t long ago when the aerospace industry was severely hit by Covid-19 that led to the suspension in air travel for over 2 years. The interruption in flight activities took a toll on not just the airlines, but the entire value chain including Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO), support services and training companies.

As air travel rebounds, the high-margin services industry is picking up its pace to fill the gap caused by the pandemic. This presents an attractive opportunity for companies like U.S. plane maker, Boeing Co. In 2021, it was forecasted that the industry needs around 626,000 new aviation maintenance technicians over the next two decades to support the global commercial aviation fleet.

Beyond MRO, we are also seeing a global shortage of pilots. According to Statista’s outlook for 2029, Asia Pacific is projected to see the largest pilot shortage in the world, requiring over 22,000 pilots to fill demand in the aviation industry. On the other end, North America will also need over 20,600 pilots to fill up the pilot demand in the region.
