Highlights of the
week: For
more career opportunities from various industries,
please access Career Axis. Dear Students Many of you are knee deep in your books preparing
for finals right now. Hang in there as examinations also signal the
approaching of holidays directly after! Be it that you have some plans lined
up or still exploring how to spend your holidays productively and
meaningfully, here are some activities that you may consider adding to your
year-end bucket list. New Language ·
Pick up a new language and take your
cultural intelligence up a notch! Knowledge of foreign languages exposes you
to cultural diversity and enables you to better connect with others from
various cultures. Find yourself being presented with new possibilities when
you grow more confident in a new language. · Gain that competitive edge over others to study abroad, participate in
overseas immersion programmes, score an overseas career opportunity, or even
strike business collaborations. On a leisure front, you may also better
appreciate foreign films, food, culture and more! There are many mobile apps
available that allow learning on the go – check out Duolingo and Memrise today! New Skills ·
Learning would not be boring if it’s
something you enjoy doing or are enthusiastic about. Sounds like a
no-brainer, right? As you commit time to repeatedly do something, hobbies –
such as playing an instrument or baking – can even potentially become a
skill. · Go further by introducing your hobbies to your friends, and you’ll
find that you get better at it when you teach. Time spent on hobbies and
cultivating skills can remain useful and who knows? It may even spark a
business idea, start a knowledge-sharing interest group, or allow you to form
new connections. New Technologies ·
Being conversant in technologies seems
ever critical given that we now live in a digital world. Hence, enhance your IT
knowledge and skills by attending courses or reading up on computer
programming and software in a systematic way. · There are 3 Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platforms that NTU
students may sign up for – Coursera, edX and FutureLearn.
Check out the myriad of resources and courses made available on these
platforms! Volunteer ·
Don’t let COVID-19 stop you –
volunteering options have evolved, and virtual options are now available! ·
To start, visit giving.sg for an array of choices. There are sessions which allows you to
showcase your capabilities – event planning, take photographs for events,
provide tutoring, or conduct market research for impact start-ups or social
enterprises. Alternatively, why not go spread some festive cheer to the
underprivileged by helping to distribute care packs or pack goodie bags? Update
Your Resume ·
More
often than not, opportunities knock when you’re least
expecting it. Take the holidays to update your resume and portfolio so that
you won’t be caught off guard! ·
Leverage VMock,
an online review tool that assesses your resume’s basic readiness and provides
instant personalised feedback and grading on your resume. Simply set-up your
free student account if you have yet to do so! Industry Insights & Career Guidance ·
Feeling lost and hesitant about your
career options? Book a session and engage with a Consultant
or Coach to discuss your career aspirations and plan steps to achieve your
goals. Learn more about the various industries and be better prepared to
contribute at your future workplace. The holidays will be over before you
even know it. Therefore, it is important to carefully plan your activities to
focus on things you really enjoy and care about. |
