Dear Students

You would agree that the pandemic has undoubtedly shone a spotlight on the healthcare and bioscience sector like never before. Companies in the Medtech, Biotech and Pharmaceutical arena are riding the wave of digitisation and technology as digital transformation is coming to the whole of society.

Globally, mentions of artificial intelligence (AI) from the filings of companies in the medical devices industry rose 25% between the first and second quarters of 2021. In Singapore, we see an exciting time ahead for the industry as we witness SingHealth and SGInnovate inking a three-year partnership to build and scale up health science innovation with the use of AI just this Tuesday, 9 Nov. One of the key areas that this partnership will focus on includes talent development through real-world training opportunities and exchanges.

Begin by checking out and understanding the possibilities presented by various companies across MNCs, SMEs, Start-ups and Governments.

Start-ups and SMEs

·     Healint

·    Obviohealth

·    Biomind

·    Lucence

·    Proteona

·    Hummingbird Biosciences

·    Engine Biosciences

MNCs

·         Johnson & Johnson – Technology Leadership Development Programme

·         GlaxoSmithKline – Future Leader Programme

·         MSD – IT Emerging Talent Rotation Programme

·         illumina – Bioinformatics Scientist

Our local healthcare system is also no stranger to the deployment of AI and proves optimistic for the growth of the industry. Healthcare professionals have demonstrated the ability to progress with the times – from the ‘Chatbot doctor’ promptly rolled out last year for over 3,000 patients in community care facilities, AI-enabled models assessing fall risks, a device that creates 3D holograms to assist doctors, to an ‘artificial brain’ to manage Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s services.

An enabler, AI sets the industry on a quest to raise capability and deliver better care. As it works alongside us, healthcare workers will be empowered and have a greater capacity to bring more love, care and compassion to patients.
