Doing Singapore proud in the area of Speech Recognition
Dr Li Haizhou puts Singapore on the world map with his "voice biometrics" technology that is able to match a voice sample against a database of voices, like the way how fingerprints are being identified

Haizhou's speech recognition technology can be used to zero in on a person. His 12 member team correctly matched 98 percent of the voices speaking in different languages in the tests held by National Institute of Standards and Technology.

His work has won him a seat on the board of the International Speech Communication Association, the world's largest professional organization on speech communication science and technology.

Haizhou's deepest sense of accomplishment is when people start to use his technologies to help them to work more efficiently at work and make it part of their daily lives. One example is the speech recognition feature that was introduced in 2002 into Changi Airport's Telephone Flight Inquiry Service.
