Students undertaking Multimedia projects are expected either to have the following skills themselves or who have members in their project team with the following skills:

Moderation Submissions
For evaluation and grading, the students will submit three copies of their project and written report for evaluation. Each written summary must be presented in ring binding with clear, plastic cover and card stock backing. The maximum number of pages for the written summary should not exceed 30 pages, minus appendices. The multimedia project needs to be presented on a CD/DVD. The system requirements must be clearly indicated on the CD/DVD cover along with the title of the project and group members' names. Additionally, the producers must obtain copyright permission for any non-original material included in the program as well as any needed interview, performance or location permission releases, if appropriate. These forms should be included in the final report submitted to the moderators and to SCI.
The students hold the copyright for their projects and the copyright information within the body of the program and on the packaging should clearly indicate this (i.e. © student(s) name, 2006). The students must also include the NTU logo and following acknowledgement (at the end of the project as well as on the packaging) that reads:
"This work was produced as final-year project in the School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore."
Any press materials about the project should also include the above acknowledgements. The NTU logo is available at SCI's FYP website.

Final Product (70%)
The grading of Multimedia Projects will take the following into account:
• Creativity - original idea
• Original concept
• Original script + storyboard
• Presentation (technical competency)
• Present specific (instructional) objectives
• Match target audiences' characteristics
• Adapt to the needs of the individual audience
• Maintain user's interest
• Provide a variety of positive feedback
• Fits the target (or instructional) environment

• Evaluation of effectiveness of the project/product
• Formative evaluation (field testing, alpha version, revision):

• Matching project task goals with user performance

Written Summary (20%)
The grading of written summary will take the following into account:
• Objectives of the project
• Theoretical review on the design and development
• Description of the actual development process
• Project management
• Task goals are well defined
• Target audience description
• Team member responsibilities analysis and evaluation
• Schedule projected
• Resources + budget analysis and justification
• Documentation (project planning document which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation)
• Analysis - need analysis, content analysis, treatment definition, target audience
• Design - literature review of selected topic area, rational and justification for using multimedia in this project, flow chart, story board
• Development - preparing multimedia materials, multimedia authoring
• Implementation - filed testing, alpha version, revision, beta version, revision, and final version
• The evaluation process of the product with target users |

Oral Defense (10%)
Students should be prepared to participate in a Q & A session lasting no longer than 25 minutes. Presentations are not required, but if they are given, should contain new or additional information not covered in the video or report. Each group should anticipate questions from the panel, which consists of the group's supervisor and two moderators. Each member in the group should take turns to speak.
The following aspects will be examined:
• Are all members well prepared?
• Evidence of critical thinking and evaluation
• The clarity of the presentation (if appropriate)
Students will be graded individually for their contributions to the project. Students should see that members of the group assume responsibility for their own share of project tasks. |
Archival Submissions
A soft copy of the final written summary will be handed in to the School's resource library in accordance with specifications determined by the FYP committee. The deadline for archival submissions is listed at the SCI website on the FYP calendar. All appendices, release forms, copyright and location permissions must be scanned and included in the softcopy reports. All images and artwork need to be included in the soft-copy submission. If the originals were shot on 35mm film, then the negatives and print copies need to be scanned and included in the report.
In addition, the multimedia project must be submitted in a CD/DVD format for archival purposes and the system requirements must be clearly indicated on the CD/DVD cover.
