Please note that filing for award for minor is from 28 September 2009 (MON) to 15 November 2009 (SUN).

Re-classification of courses

With effect 1 November 2009, students can submit requests to re-classify their courses based on the following timelines:

either 2 weeks before the start of registration (exact dates to be advised)
OR
the 2 weeks during add/drop (exact dates to be advised)

Please note that the School will no longer except any requests for re-classification at any other time during the semester. Students are advised to check their degree audit thoroughly before submitting their requests. All requests are to be channeled to the UG Academic Manager at ksaira@ntu.edu.sg. Any requests made by students are considered final and the School will not approve any further requests for students to revert their decision.

  General Education Requirements (GER)
In addition to the core and the prescribed electives required, students must offer a minimum of 15 academic units in three separate Sub-Area; 3 academic units in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, 9 academic units in the Science, Technology and Society, and 3 academic units in the Business and Management Sub-Area. These can be chosen from courses offered by the School or by other Schools. In addition, students are required to read 37 academic units in any unrestricted electives offered by any schools. Students may convert the modules offered from any Minor to general electives if they do not complete the required AU to form a Minor at the end of their course of study.

  Optional Minors
SCI students may elect to do a minor from any of the various schools in NTU. Students may register for minor courses in the first year of study. More information on the minor program is available at the OAS website .

Alternatively, students may elect to complete at minor in the following courses at NIE or the Centre for Chinese Language and Culture."

As an additional component of the new curriculum, the following Minors are available to SCI students:

Literature in English (Note: No longer offered by NIE – taken over by HSS)
Chinese Centre for Chinese Language and Culture

Requirements
A total of 15 AU will constitute a Minor and may be obtained over a duration of 4 academic years for the degree course. To fulfill this requirement, the student must take 5 modules of 3 AU each from any Minor offered by NTU or NIE. Each Minor will consist of a Core module at the foundation level which is compulsory and elective modules at Ordinary and/or Advanced level for selection. Students must be careful in their selection of modules as not all modules are offered in every semester. All modules could count in lieu of General Electives even if the Minor course is not completed.

Students are advised to refer to the NIE and the School’s website for detailed courses to be offered at the specific semesters and the pre-requisites respectively.
