The Division of Information Studies offers programmes leading to the Master of Applied Science (MASc) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. The MASc and the PhD programmes are based mainly on research. Students in these programmes have to complete a substantive piece of research and write a thesis.
The MASc programme is for applicants who already have an MSc in Information Studies or a Bachelor's degree plus substantial experience and knowledge in an area of Information Studies, and who wish to deepen their knowledge in a specialised area through study and research. It is also suitable for applicants who wish to obtain training in research in order to engage in research and development (R&D) work.
The PhD programme is a rigorous research programme in which the candidate has to demonstrate substantial knowledge in the field and accomplishment in original research. Graduates typically become lecturers, researchers and consultants.
Admission Requirements
Acceptance of candidature is dependent on the applicant's academic background, work experience, ability to undertake an independent piece of research, and the proposed research area. Further information on higher degrees is available on application to the Head of the Division.
All applicants who have graduated from an overseas university are required to take GRE and submit their GRE scores for verbal, quantitative and analytical writing together with their application. More information on taking GRE can be found at http://www.gre.org/
