Admission Requirement
Masters by Research Degree
The minimum entry qualifications for admission as a Master's
candidate by research are a Bachelor's degree with Honours at
least at second-class (Upper) level and the ability to pursue
research in the candidate's proposed field of advanced study.
The programme is designed for students with a strong undergraduate
background who seek to develop skills for research in communication
or information studies. Applicants must demonstrate competency
in English and the ability to do independent research. All applicants
who have graduated from an overseas university are required
to take GRE and submit their scores for verbal, quantitative
and analytical writing together with their application. More

Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
The minimum entry qualifications for admission as a candidate
for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy are a Master's degree
and the ability to pursue research in the candidate's proposed
field of advanced study. As the highest academic credential
in our discipline, the PhD degree is well suited for advanced
students who wish to become academics and researchers in communication
or information studies. Admission into the PhD programme requires
a master's degree in a related discipline, English-language
competency, and the ability to do independent research All applicants
who have graduated from an overseas university are required
to take GRE and submit their GRE scores for verbal, quantitative
and analytical writing together with their application. More

Academic Calendar
The University's academic year commences in the second week
of August and is divided into two semesters. The first semester
begins in August and the second semester begins in January. For

Period of Candidature
For higher degrees by research, candidates may be admitted as full-time or part-time students. The minimum and maximum periods of candidature for both full-time and part-time are as follows:

For full time students, it usually takes
two years to complete a Master's degree and four years to complete
a PhD degree.

How to Apply
The closing dates for admission falls on 31 July or 31 January each year. All applications
will be reviewed by the School's Graduate Program by Research
Committee, after which they are forwarded to the University's
Board of Graduate Studies for approval. The Board meets regularly
and the candidate is likely to know the outcome in three to
four months' time. Applicants are able to enquire online the
status of their application including Acceptance of Offer (eg
whether the University has received them), their Student Pass

Fees
Tuition in the form of research fees for graduate students by research ranges from S$4,480 to S$4,930 for Singaporean and SPR students, and S$6,720 to S$11,200 for international students respectively per academic year. The fees are reviewed and subject to revision yearly. As and when fees are revised, the new fees will apply to all existing and new students. Other fees include registration fee, student registration card fee, examination fee and computer account fee. Financial Assistance
The School provides financial assistance to full-time research students in the form of research scholarships. Full-time research students are awarded with scholarships and they are required to fulfill teaching, research and other duties for the School for at least 10 hours a week. The award is tenable for one year in the first instance. It can be renewed for another year (for Master's degree candidate) or three more years (for Ph.D candidate). The renewal of research scholarship is at the discretion of the School, subject to student's progress and performance as well as availability of funding. Students on research scholarships will have their tuition fees funded by the University and will receive a stipend ranging from S$1,500 (for Master's candidate) to S$2,000 (for Ph.D candidate).
