   Research, Teaching and Professional Experience

Before joining NTU in 2004, Dr. Xu worked as an associate professor in Beijing, a senior research associate in Hong Kong and a lecturer in Singapore. He has published two books, six book chapters, and 16 journal articles. His academic publications along with his 27 conference papers cover largely international journalism, journalism education, press models, national images in the media, women and media, press freedom, Asian values in journalism, and online journalism.

Dr. Xu has taught both conceptual and hands-on courses, including introduction to journalism and publishing, online journalism, comparative press systems, media in contemporary society, basic media writing in Chinese, and media in China. He has also taught in a number of professional training programs in Singapore and beyond.
He serves as a judge for media-related award competitions locally and overseas. He also serves as a media consultant for a number of companies in Asia and beyond. He is the webmaster of CCA, a US-based association of Chinese communication scholars. And he is also the creator and coordinator of Media Club International.
Currently, he is conducting various projects including mapping, measuring and modeling press differences, comparing media systems in Asia, development journalism, online journalism, foreign TV news, citizen journalism, media education, and media in China.
