   Research, Teaching and Professional Experience
Dr. Shirley Ho joined the WKWSCI as an assistant professor in January 2009. Her current research focuses on media effects and public opinion in the context of controversial science, risk, and global health issues; the uses and implications of new communication technologies; and communication theory and quantitative research methods. Some of her recent works examine the influence of mass media on public opinion about scientific issues such as the stem cell controversy and nanotechnology and public attitudes toward newly emerging infectious diseases such as the avian flu and the West Nile virus. She has published research papers in top-tier academic journals and presented numerous papers at major international conferences. She has also won a top-paper award at the International Communication Association Conference.
Prior to graduate school, she was a senior tutor in the WKWSCI between 2003 and 2008 (on study leave between 2004 and 2008). In 2004, she was awarded an NTU overseas scholarship to pursue her doctoral degree in Mass Communications in the United States. She also had professional experience in Singapore as a management executive at the Media Development Authority.
