Wee Kim Wee SCI Don Comments on Singapore’s Television Viewership Figures

Wee Kim Wee SCI Assistant Professor Foo Tee Tuan shared his views on how cable channels had eaten into free-to-air television's share of the viewing pie in Singapore. He pointed out that the 10 or so free-to-air channels were competing with over 140 StarHub channels. He noted that MediaCorp needed to produce more original programming in order to compete, but free-to-air also had to cater to the population segment that did not have cable as well.

Assoc Prof Adam Knee Gives Expert Comments on "Golden Age" Cambodian Films

Assoc Prof Adam Knee, Division Head of Broadcast & Cinema Studies, attended a rare retrospective screening of “Golden Age” Cambodian films (from before the Khmer Rouge era) and met with some of the young filmmakers and university students involved with setting up the event in Phnom Penh.  This largely unprecedented film series received a huge local response and standing-room-only audiences, with Cambodian film buffs and collectors coming forward to share information, and even an important old-time director long assumed dead contacting the organizers to let them know he was still much alive and residing in Canada.

Journeys – Recalling the Rites of Passage that Transform Freshmen into Graduates 2009

Adeline Ong is a photojournalist in the 2009 graduating cohort from NTU’s Wee Kim Wee School of Communication & Information (WKWSCI). She previously interned with The New Paper and participated in WKWSCI’s GO-FAR (Going Overseas for Advanced Reporting) programme to Karnataka, India. Together with fellow graduate Lim Chin Ping, she staged a photo exhibition on mental illness, entitled “Out of Sight, Out of Mind”, at Singapore’s National Library in July (asightofmind.com).

Ms Lynette Khoo (Class of 2006) Wins Most Promising Journalist of the Year Award

Business Times reporter Ms Lynette Khoo, who is an alumna of the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (Class of 2006), won the Most Promising Journalist of the Year Award at this year's Securities Investors Association (Singapore) or SIAS Investors' Choice Awards. Commenting on Ms Khoo’s work, Mr Alvin Tay, editor of The Business Times said: “Lynette is a driven and committed journalist. She will not rest easy if there is no story to pursue, and her willingness to chase down every lead is highly commendable”.
