Attachment Programmes

Most undergraduate courses at NTU emphasize the importance of practical training.  Students are required to undergo a period of attachment in a private or public organisation locally or overseas during their course of study.  The four attachment programmes are listed below.

Programme

Brief Description of Programme

Industrial Attachment (IA)

  • 22-week attachment from January to June (main period) or July to December.

For third years students from the engineering schools, i.e. 

Note: Besides the 22-week Industrial Attachment, engineering students can also opt for 10-week Industrial Orientation or 30-week Enhanced Industrial Attachment. Placements will be sourced by students or the schools.

Industrial Immersion (II)

  • 10-week attachment from May to July.
  • For third year Maritime Studies students.

Professional Attachment (PA)

Business students specialise in one of the following: Actuarial Science, Banking & Finance, Human Resource Consulting, Information Technology, Tourism & Hospitality Management or Marketing.

HSS students specialise in one of the following: Chinese, Economics, English, Psychology or Sociology

Professional Internship (PI)

  • 24-week attachment from Jan to June.
  • For 3rd year students from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication & Information
  • Students specialise in one of the following: Communication Research, Electronic & Broadcast Media, Journalism & Publishing or Public & Promotional Communication.

Since 1983, more than 5000 organisations have participated in our various attachment programmes. Many of the organisations which have repeatedly participated in the attachment programmes have cited the following benefits derived:

  • opportunity to evaluate and recruit potential employees,
  • additional manpower to supplement existing staff, and
  • fresh ideas and perspective from enthusiastic students.

Besides, participating organisations are also fulfilling their social responsibility by working together with the university to train future employees for the industries.
