In our beautiful garden campus, the largest in
Singapore, you’ll find the right mix of
opportunities and challenges to find your calling
and get the best career head-start.
With a wide range of disciplines offered by 12
schools in our four colleges of engineering,
business, science and humanities, arts and social
sciences, and a national institute of education,
students can create their own unique combinations of
knowledge in fresh and exciting ways.
Indeed, in this global age, our students must be prepared for
a more complex working world and be educated beyond their
core disciplines. They need to have a keen sense of
entrepreneurship, cultural skills and the ability to understand
the intricacies of globalisation. NTU, one of the world’s leading
research-intensive universities with students, faculty and staff
from more than 70 countries, offers these opportunities,
including exciting joint programmes with renowned partner
universities and overseas study, internship and research
attachments.
A home for many, the Yunnan Garden campus is a campus
village teeming with diverse cultures. There are 16 halls of
residence and postgraduate apartments for students, as well
as a range of sports and recreational facilities that were
upgraded to international gaming standards for the
participants of the Youth Olympic Games. We are now
implementing an ambitious campus master plan that will
transform our 200-hectare campus to support new teaching
pedagogies, interdisciplinary research and social networking
and interaction.
Two new buildings for self-directed learning will be developed
over the next three to four years, and complementing this will
be up to eight new halls of residence. We have also created a
large student activities centre at the heart of the campus, next
to NTU’s central dining corridor. Our academic complexes and
laboratories are the equal of any in the best universities
overseas. In fact, leading technology-based institutions such
as Thales, Rolls-Royce, Microvision and Toray Industries Inc
have chosen to set up joint laboratories with us.
Not many people know that NTU is the youngest university
ranked among the top 100 on the Quacquarelli Symonds
World University Rankings 2010. It is no wonder more top
professors, including the leading lights of science and
technology, are heading here to join our research enterprise,
to become your professors and mentors. NTU students relish
the chance to be part of these cross-disciplinary teams of
young talents and world-renowned professors working to
solve multi-faceted problems that affect our planet and the
way we live.
Led by a new management team, NTU is now building on its
strengths and implementing a bold five-year plan to achieve
new peaks of excellence in areas of importance such as
sustainability, healthcare, new media, innovation and the
culmination of the East and West as a knowledge hub. One
major initiative that I am personally driving is the
establishment of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine
together with Imperial College London, one of the best
universities in the world.
I invite you to join us and be part of our dynamic community.
Seize opportunities to make a difference when you are here.
Build personal networks with people from around the world,
and share your ideas and ideals. Falling in love and finding a
life partner while in university will be a bonus! I’d also like to
see new companies being started by students and professors
alongside fresh community service projects that allow us to
give back to society in meaningful ways.
Your time at NTU will definitely be both fun and rewarding.
See you soon!
