About the National Infocomm Competition

National Infocomm Competition

The National Infocomm Competition is a multi-themed inter-school challenge created to uncover top infocomm talent in Singapore. Divided into three circuits - secondary schools, junior colleges and ITE/polytechnics – the competition will encompass challenges focused on areas such as business IT, digital media, mobile technology, security & networking and more. Main registration: 5 September – 1 October 2007

  1. Overview

    1. The VIRTUALXGAME (VXG) contest is an official challenge in the National Infocomm Competition (NIC) of Singapore

    2. The VXG contest is open to teams representing Singapore Junior Colleges, Polytechnics, and ITEs. The number of teams that the institutions are permitted to send is as follows:

      1. A Junior College is allowed to send exactly one team, and

      2. Polytechnics/ITEs are allowed to send up to two teams each, either both from one constituent school, or one each from different constituent schools

    3. The VXG contest will follow the NIC circuit arrangement exactly for the award of prizes: junior colleges partaking in the VXG contest will be assessed in their own circuit against other junior colleges, and the polytechnics/ITEs will be ranked in another circuit against other polytechnics/ITEs

  2. Standard Conditions

    1. A junior college, polytechnic and ITE shall be eligible to enter a team into the VXG contest, if they have fulfilled the following requisites:

      1. Submitted a pre-registration form or registration form, and

      2. Received a registration number, and

      3. Paid a registration fee (50% discounted for those institutions who pre-registered; 100% otherwise).

    2. A team is eligible if it is comprised of:

      1. Eligible contestants, and

      2. An eligible coach.

    3. An eligible contestant is a student currently enrolled in the institution they are representing, as of the confirmed date of the contest

    4. An eligible coach:

      1. Is an official member of the staff of the institution he/she is representing, and

      2. Has the authority vested by the institution’s principal to be with the institution’s students in a supervisory capacity, where these students are on official institution business at an external event, and

      3. Cannot be any external contractor who is an employee of a 3rd party company and is hired by the institution.

    5. Students and coaches are required, upon request of the contest registration staff, to produce a proper staff card endorsed by the institution they are representing, as confirmation of their eligibility on the day of the contest.

    6. A team may comprise of:

      1. Up to, and not exceeding, three eligible contestants, and

      2. Exactly one eligible coach.

  3. Exceptional Conditions

    1. An institution may forfeit its eligibility if:

      1. Any information on the pre-registration form or on the registration form is found to be false or deliberately mis-informing, or

      2. Any member of the team is found to not meet the stated eligibility criteria, or

      3. Any member of the team is discovered by the VXG staff to have engaged in any act of impropriety during the contest.

    2. Acts of impropriety during the contest include, but are not limited to the following:

      1. Getting help from any person(s) not on your team, or

      2. Getting help from any person(s) not in the contest floor, or

      3. Hacking into another team’s PC, or

      4. Loading a virus into the network, or

      5. Bringing unauthorized material onto the contest floor, or

      6. Divulging part or all of your solution to another team, or

      7. Disturbing another team on the contest floor, or

      8. Any unreasonable activity not in keeping with the contest, eg., making a social and non-emergency phone call to friends during the contest may be considered unreasonable and seeking assistance.

    3. Any team that has their eligibility forfeited during the contest, may enter an appeal to the Challenge Director.

      1. This appeal must be entered before the contest is closed for the day, and

      2. The decision of the Challenge Director shall advise the subject team of his/her decision, and

      3. The decision of the Challenge Director is final.

    4. If the subject team wishes to continue with their grievance, they may forward their appeal to iDA’s adjudication committee.
