INAUGURAL NTU-IITK JOINT WORKSHOP IN MECHANICAL, AEROSPACE AND INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING
10 JULY 2007 The inaugural joint workshop between the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Departments of Mechanical, Aerospace and Industrial and Management Engineering of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) was held at NTU, Singapore on 10th July 2007. It was primarily aimed at fostering research collaboration between the faculties of both Universities. The collaboration is expected to facilitate academic staff and student exchanges in the near future and a possible joint graduate degree programme in engineering. Professor Kripa Shanker, Deputy Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur led a team of five faculty members from the Departments of Mechanical, Aerospace and Industrial and Management Engineering to this inaugural workshop. The workshop was declared open by Professor Lam Khin Yong, Chair of the School of MAE, NTU. The Guest-of-Honour was the Dean: College of Engineering, NTU, Professor Pan Tso-Chian. Following video shows profiling NTU and IIT-K, the session began with overviews of research focus at NTU/MAE and IITK. This was then followed by the technical sessions with presentations from faculty members of both universities. A total of 17 technical presentations in the areas of Computational Modelling including Multi-scale Modelling; MEMs and Nanofluidics; Energy including Fuel cells and Biodiesel; Flight Mechanics and Supply Chain Management; were presented by faculty members from NTU and IIT-K in 5 technical sessions on the first day of the workshop. The workshop was well-attended by faculty members, research staff and graduate students from NTU and also by visitors from external organisations.
